Bassenthwaite Primary School and Little Ducklings Nursery (Part of Keswick MAT)

Bassenthwaite School is part of a small village community nestled below the eastern slopes of Skiddaw, 7 miles North of Keswick in the Lake District National Park. The stunning location of our school provides a truly inspirational environment in which to teach our students. We became an academy as part of the Keswick Multi Academy Trust in January 2018. Our school encourages high standards of learning and behaviour whilst creating a warm, friendly and caring family environment for children from Nursery age through to Year 6.  We believe that a wide curriculum, tailored to the children’s interests and needs, encourages our pupils to develop a love of learning. We offer full wraparound care on site (8am until 5.30pm) and offer a variety of after school clubs each school term.

Ofsted visited our school in April 2022 and found our school  continued to be ‘Good’ and described that our “pupils enjoy coming to school and spending time with their friends outside in the beautiful setting. They are expected to behave well and they know if there is something they don’t understand, adults will help them. Leaders provide pupils with an ambitious curriculum that covers a broad range of
subjects. All pupils learn well from this curriculum, including those with SEND. Leaders
have thought carefully about the most important knowledge that they want pupils to learn
in each subject by the time that they leave the school . Leaders have designed the
curriculum so that in each year group, pupils build up this important knowledge in a
logical order . This helps pupils to remember their learning over time..”
